A Local Trip with BBFsThree!

(A town you’ll want to visit again)

Hello!
I’m Aisa, a Tomodachi Guide in the San’in area!
“Tomodachi” means “friend”.
I love to show Tomodachi the charm of my favorite local town.

Today, I’d like to share with you an experience I had guiding the lovely great trio.

First, we visited a large old house at the top of a terraced rice field called the Ooe-no-Sato Residence.
You can see a very beautiful view from this house.

And we interacted with the couple that lives there, Takeshi and Naoko Wakuri.

The trio were asking questions about what kind of life they usually live and what it feels like to live in Okuizumo.

Although they had difficulties with the language, they could understand each other’s feelings.

After talking a lot, we made rice balls using Nita rice!

Actually, the local children helped to make this rice.

And Naoko-san also served one of Okuizumo’s local foods, “Nishime”!

This is “Nishime”. It is often served at parties, so they picked wild plants and preserved them so that they could be eaten throughout the year.

Naoko-san was worried whether the guests would like it or not, but they really enjoyed it, so she was very happy!

Finally, Takeshi-san played “Yasugi-bushi”, a traditional Japanese song from the town next to Okuizumo.

Local food, local music, and local people…

When you come into contact with the culture of Okuizumo, and the local people, you will want to go again! You will want to go see Takeshi-san and Naoko-san again! I think this time was that kind of a trip.
